Part of the spiritual work of Lent is noticing the moments of joy which burst into your lives, for those are “mini-resurrection moments”. As you have worked with God to strip away all that you no longer need, and God has set you free from whatever bonds have tied you to an old way of life, new life emerges. Our faithful work is noticing that. Listen to Mother Barbara share with you a moment of joy for her this past week.

Zoom worship service for this weekend Feb. 27th, 5-6 p.m.

We invite you to join us in worship by Zoom this weekend, on Saturday evening, from 5-6 p.m. This will be an opportunity to worship in community, with communion (either Spiritual Communion or Communion under Special Circumstances) and to feel the joy of being with others.

Welcome Back Sunday

Today was our Welcome Back Sunday and it was glorious! We resumed our regular 2 services and everyone felt “back in their groove”. Some parishioners, who have moved elsewhere, came back to be a part of our parish family and it was fabulous to see them. There was a real sense of community of hearts gathered.

At the 10 a.m. service, we had two young people offer their musical talent to our service and we all felt blessed by their offerings.

One of my favorite images from the worship was watching our young acolytes, especially our gospel bearer who takes his ministry very seriously and does it exactly right!

After the worship, we gathered for our picnic — right on our front lawn! There were grilled hamburgers and side dishes galore. We all were fed with companionship and great food.

In addition, we worked together on two projects: installing a “good neighbor” sign, which invites us to love all those who are not like us. A good Gospel message!

We also worked on painting our “little food pantry” which is about “feeding neighbors, nourishing neighborhoods”. As soon as it is ready to be filled, we invite you to fill it with pantry items that can be shared with our neighbors in need.

Choir Party today

We are so blessed by our faithful music ministers here at St. Andrew’s. It is such joy that we have a number of members who offer their gift of music as part of our worship at 10 a.m. They are led by Organist and Choir Master Dr. Gerald Weale (Jerry), for whose leadership we are most grateful.

The choir sings from September through mid-June. They rehearse Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. in the PLC. New members are always welcome.

Today a luncheon was offered by Mother Barbara at her home to show her appreciation for their faithfulness and the many gifts they offer our parish. Please join her in expressing your thanksgiving for their ministry.

Crucifer Training

This past Saturday, our vergers, whose ministry is centered around hospitality and worship preparation, trained several young people to be crucifers. It is very important to us that our young people find their place within our worship leadership. Our Book of Common Prayer states that all baptized are full members of the Church and we honor that by involving our young people in as many roles as possible at St. Andrew’s.

Crucifers carry the cross and lead the procession into the church (symbolizing the awareness of Christ’s presence among us), carry the gospel book (symbolizing the proclamation of the good news of Christ among the people), bring the offering to the altar for blessing (symbolizing everyone’s offering of their whole self to God), help set the table (symbolizing the holy preparation of the Great Thanksgiving as being of and for the people of God) assist at the altar (ring the sanctus bells, symbolizing the especially holy moments of the Eucharist), fill the second chalice (symbolizing the distribution of the holy elements to the people), and carry the cross in the retiring processional (symbolizing our taking the cross of Christ into the world).

As you can see, crucifers do important and holy work!
