Advent & Getting Ready for Christmas Party

Today we began the season of Advent, which bears the invitation to prepare our hearts and souls for the coming of the Christ child in our midst. It is a season of waiting, watching, and anticipating the fullness of life offered to us each moment through the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. We had a great time this morning preparing for Christmas. We gathered to make Advent wreaths from fresh greens from our yard, preparing to pray our…

Feeding the body and soul.

Yesterday was a spiritually “full” day, by that I mean, it was a day when the presence of God seemed to saturate us at St. Andrew’s. At expected and unexpected moments, I kept bumping into the awareness of the presence of something bigger than any of us, something more pervasive than effort any of us could sustain, and something richer than any of us could image. After a remarkable morning of glorious worship, when Deacon Wanda, Mother Carenda and I…

Coming together as the Body of Christ: A Pastoral Letter

Dear Friends, This week, we as a nation participated in the election of our next president; the campaign was often polarizing, contained hateful language and hurtful rhetoric, and raised legitimate issues. Many of us are bewildered as to how we have arrived at this place of major division among good and faithful people; some are confused at other people’s reaction to the results; some are elated at the results, others are distraught and afraid. Wherever you find yourself, please know…

Youth Mini-Mission Event: Gleaning

This past Sunday 17 young people and 10 adults gleaned 900 pounds of apples! It was remarkable! The day was beautiful and the energy high as we headed out in the rows of apples to pick any remaining fruit from the tree or to choose good apples from the ground. it was an amazing experience to have so many of us show up to gather food, which was then transported to SPO (Shippensburg Produce Outreach) and was distributed today to…

Our young people make beads too!

This past Sunday, our young people joined in the fun and created their own beads for their Anglican Prayer Bead sets. We are so grateful they are interested in exploring different ways to pray and always feel welcome to do whatever it is the adults are doing. I just love these intergenerational events!

We keep making beads!

We want everyone who would like to be able to make Anglican Prayer Beads and learn how to pray them. So we brought the beads to the people today. Thank you, Jeanine, for making this possible! Here are some photos of people creating beads from clay, choosing the right spacer beads and laying it all out, and then stringing them. If you would like to make a set and haven’t had the chance to do so, just let us know.…

Pumpkin Patch Fundraising for The Episcopal Home

Our parish has a long-time commitment to supporting The Episcopal Home, a personal care home located in Shippensburg which offers exceptional care for its residents. Our annual fundraiser often raises $4000.00 which is donated to The Episcopal Home for their benevolent care fund, which helps supports those residents who need additional funds for their care. This Saturday our St. Andrew’s quilters offered many wonderful items for sale — baked goods, yard sale items, homemade quilted items, delicious vegetable soup, jewelry,…

Youth Mini-Mission Project has begun!

Today, 13 of our young people gathered to peel apples, measure dry ingredients, mix everything together, and wash the dishes ~ all to prepare fresh apple cakes for our community meal tomorrow. It was such a joy to see our young people working together to help other people! Tomorrow evening we serve our community meal. Each month, we offer a delicious and homemade meal to about 60 people from our neighborhood. It is an offering born out of our desire…

Ladies’ Paint Nite

There is something very special about women getting together, wanting to relax and have fun together, desiring to create together, and doing it all at church. We learned tonight that there is a remarkable bond that can be formed over palettes of paint! Tonight we gathered for our first Ladies’ Paint Nite and had a wonderful time. It was fabulous that we each felt free to create the sunflower painting that was exactly right for us ~ they were all…

Parish Summer BBQ

We gathered for a great meal, lively conversation, and fun at our annual parish Summer BBQ. Our young people enjoyed writing prayers on our outdoor prayer chalkboards as they prepared to head off to school in a few days. Thanks to all who came and joined in on the fun!
