We understood from the very beginning as we dreamt about the community garden and the ministry center that we didn’t want to just provide services (like food boxes or fresh organic vegetables from our garden) but we wanted to be in relationship with people in the neighborhood. If not, how would “we” and “them” be transformed into a “we” as people who reside together in a community. We wanted to learn their stories, provide food that matches their local context, offer friendship and open hearts to meet them exactly where they are.
Each Tuesday morning we welcome our neighbor to a free hot breakfast with fruit, coffee, tea, hot cocoa and juice. We always open our hearts for the life-giving conversations we have with our neighbors. We are so grateful for the opportunity to sit with people, learn about them, pray with them (if they ask) and be changed by our relationships.
