In response to God’s generous gift of our sacred world and God’s enduring and everlasting love, we are to care for God’s creation. There is much theology (belief about God) rooted in our scriptures to support the idea that we are to be good stewards of creation which has been entrusted to us by God. And certainly we can imagine that since creation is God’s primary revelation (the first way God’s love and presence was made known to the world) that if we want to be in right relationship with God, we must be in right relationship with God.
Our “outside the walls of our church” ministry which has led us to the creation of a community garden is rooted in our deep understanding of our role as stewards of the land, employing gardening techniques which support the health of the soil (only organic), composting, and the idea of permaculture (of creating an ecosystem which is sustainable and supportive for the area.)

We recently offered a presentation on our Grace Place Community Garden program for our Diocesan Creation Care “Lunch and Learn” Series. It was an opportunity to share with others the wisdom we have learned from the community, by engaging, learning, offering to, receiving from, and loving our neighbors. We are so deeply shaped by those around us, as we yearn to become the beloved community, honoring the possibilities of becoming something together.
