Home and community come in all shapes and sizes. Did you know that some of the elders in our community currently struggle with the burden of home and care? As seniors in our community age, many outlive their savings in an increasingly expensive and complex world. Our Episcopal Home was founded in 1927 to help struggling seniors find community in a safe and loving home at an affordable cost. Our Episcopal Home is a joint mission because of the expense and regulations that weigh down running a personal care home. This is a mission no single parish can sustain alone. Together, we support this important mission. Together, we are able to give care, love, and community to 32 Episcopal Home residents. Here are some reasons of why this mission is more important than ever:
• Second to Florida, Pennsylvania has the highest population of senior citizens in the United States.
• The average age of an Episcopal Home resident is 89.
• Residents of the Home come from all walks of life, some were waitresses, university
professors, seamstresses, and office/factory workers.
• Often the elders in our communities, including residents of the Episcopal Home, have outlived their income/savings.
What better month to celebrate our Episcopal Home than August, when most of us go away from home! While it is nice to get away, it is wonderful to have a place to which we can return.
