Forming our young people in their faith is foundational to our mission at St. Andrew’s. We are blessed with young people as a part of our congregation and each one is honored and affirmed in their ministry among us. Many serve in worship as banner bearers, acolytes, crucifers, offering ministers, greeters, thurifers (offering incense), musicians and even preachers from time to time.
We want to form our young people to be followers of Jesus and to know our Episcopal heritage and tradition. We began our Pre-Confirmation classes last year for those who are around 11 years old. They will be prepared for confirmation by these classes for 2 years and then a year of confirmation classes.
We meet once a week, typically on the 4th Sunday of the month. If it is not on the 4th Sunday of the month, you will be notified. We meet in the Upstairs Parish Life Center at 11:15 until 12:15 p.m. The class will be taught by several faithful adults, with the presence also of the Rector.
Our class is centered around our Book of Common Prayer, which contains our services, prayers, and our theology around why we worship they way we do and what it expresses about our beliefs about God. We pick up our studies from last year with an exploration of the “hinge” in our Eucharistic Service, the offertory. Our young people will explore this part of our service and write their own version, which will be used in a service created by our youth, in our Episcopal tradition, and worshipped by all during our Eucharistic service.
