The Universal Christ Book Group

We gather every other week to discuss the book, The Universal Christ, which is written by Richard Rohr, a Franciscan monk and a Roman Catholic priest. His writing offers an expansive way to view the difference between Jesus (the person who embodied humanity and divinity) and Christ, which is the presence of the Risen Christ, made possible through the resurrected Jesus, yet also was in the beginning with the presence of God the Creator. It’s a fascinating book which leads…

Preparing to Become the Beloved Community

We are engaging with the Episcopal Church curriculum of “Preparing to Become the Beloved Community” this season of Advent. The study is focused on the scripture for these 4 weeks of Advent and Christmas Day. Our time together will include scripture study, prayer, small group discussion, and time for reflection. All of you are invited to participate as we deepen our understanding of God’s dream for humanity and how we can work with the Holy Spirit in making this happen.…

Book Study Group: Caste

As part of our ongoing spiritual work of understanding our call to become a part of God’s beloved community, where we respect the dignity of all people, where we see our connections as those created and loved by God, not our divisions or distinctions, we are engaging in a conversation around this book: Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson. This book will provide an important piece of the historical puzzle of unlocking how we have arrived at…

Community Meal

Three times a month we are able to provide meals to our neighbors. It is a gift for us to be able to open our hands and hearts and help others — and of course, love is always a two-way street — we are made richer by their involvement in our lives. We are serving “Grab and Go” meals during this time of safety precautions due to the pandemic, but the meals are healthy and prepared with love. If you…

Early Church Writings

We will gather electronically to delve into the early church writings, or the Epistles, which are the oldest books in our New Testament. We will prepare by reading the text (each Epistle), learn about its context, history, key words, important theological concepts and significance in our current thinking, and then explore how it may have shaped our worship practices or how it fits into our life today. Our sessions will last one hour, with about 30 minutes of that in…
