Our “Sending” Ministries

Our “Sending” Ministries

“SEND us out to do the work you have given us to do.” We hear this directive at the end of each of our worship services. This means we are to bring our Sunday experience of worship, communion, and community into our ordinary lives to make them extraordinary. We are sent out as the Body of Christ into our family lives, work lives, our society and civic world, and into our neighborhoods, often serving through our ministries at church to those around us. The truth of our life is that God sends us into the world over and over again to be God’s own loving presence in a world in need of transformation. Here are some of the ways we do this:

Community Meal Team Members

St. Andrew’s is dedicated to meeting the needs of the hungry people in our area, partly because Jesus tells us to show compassion and mercy to others and this is a concrete way to do it, and partly because we see the meals we offer from our parish kitchen to be an extension of the Holy Eucharist we shared on Sunday. We find people come to be fed in body and soul and that’s our hope that we can accomplish…

Christmas Day Dinner Team

For 10 years we have opened our doors on Christmas Day to our community, inviting them to share a fabulous traditional Christmas meal with us and to share the joy of the birth of Jesus. Our Parish Life Center is filled with love, warmth, great food, and companionship. There are many ways to be a part of this glorious event. Before Christmas, you could join us in baking bread so each guest has a fresh loaf to take home with…

Community Outreach Ministry Projects

Each year we participate in a number of local outreach efforts with our local community. Throughout the year, we support SPO (Shippensburg Produce Outreach) with a donation of $75.00 so they can buy fresh eggs for their clients. We also collect food for King’s Kettle, our local food pantry. In addition, we participate in collecting pencil boxes and notebooks for the local Blessing of the Backpack Collection, often collecting over 500 pencil boxes! We also support two families at Christmas…

Parish & Diocesan Leadership

Serving in parish leadership is an important ministry. You are taking on the joy and responsibility of being a good steward for the parish’s resources (which are the people, the energy and passion of the people, the financial resources, and the buildings which house our ministries). You also join a group of people who help develop the vision and mission of the parish as we as a community respond to God’s call to grow more deeply in our relationship with…

Support of Ongoing Feeding Programs: SPO and King’s Kettle Collection

We donate money for fresh eggs for the clients of SPO (Shippensburg Produce Outreach) and food supplies each month for King’s Kettle, our local food pantry. Everyone is asked to support these important ministries in our Shippensburg area. If anyone would like to help coordinate or promote these events, please see Mother Barbara.

The Episcopal Home

The Episcopal Home is a personal care home which is physically attached to St. Andrew’s and holds a huge part of our heart. We deeply believe in their mission of providing excellent care to people in need. Our members are involved with the support of the Episcopal Home in many ways: volunteering with activities, assisting with or offering the healing and Holy Eucharist service, serving on their board, and donating money as individuals and as a parish which supports their…

Quilters

Since 2000, the St. Andrew’s quilting group has created and raffled off a quilt each year. The proceeds of this  raffle are all donated from the outreach committee at St. Andrew’s to the Episcopal Home. The quilting group has also donated quilts to the Highland Education Project in WV, and currently makes pieced and tied lap quilts for veteran’s hospitals in Pennsylvania, with a total of 300 having been made so far. St. Andrew’s Quilters accept donations of fabric and…
