Our “Gathering” Ministries

Our “Gathering” Ministries

The Holy Spirit gathers us and invites us to come within the Body of Christ. These ministries draw us together, strengthen our parish family, and continually invite us to be transformed by the presence of Christ among us. Here are some of the ways we do that:

Greeters

What do the Greeters do as St. Andrews? These parishioners enhance worship by greeting both friends and newcomers, helping everyone to feel at home at St. Andrew’s. The Greeters assist those who need help with seating and count those attending the service. They also assist the children who collect the offering of the congregation. Vergers

We are fortunate at St. Andrew’s to have two of the very few members of the Guild of Vergers in our diocese and another dedicated experienced Verger, all of whom serve our parish competently and faithfully. The verger’s visible ministry occurs before and during worship. The verger checks preparations  for the service, assists as needed, leads the procession, and helps us understand the flow of the liturgy. The verger’s “behind the scene” ministry involves one of hospitality, knowing our parish…

Coffee Hour Hosts

Being a Christian means you are part of a community. That community is there to be with you, hold you, encourage you, rejoice with you, support you, and build a spiritual friendship with you. We do that in many ways at St. Andrew’s and one of them is through our enjoyment of each other’s company in Coffee Hour, which occurs immediately after the 10 a.m. Sunday service. This is an important time to come together and a wonderful ministry of…

Buildings & Grounds Team

We are blessed with a beautiful church building which draws us into the nearness of God and grounds that speak welcome to everyone who passes by in downtown Shippensburg. We come together several times a year to “beautify” our treasures. This can be polishing the wood in the church, decluttering closets, raking leaves, pruning bushes — there’s a task for everyone and all skill levels. It’s actually quite fun to come together and care for the place that feeds our…

Welcoming Newcomers

We often speak of one of our greatest gifts of our parish is that we are a welcoming and inclusive group of people, embracing diversity and sharing God’s love with all. It is always our prayer that everyone who walks through our red doors will feel this warm embrace, not just by the clergy, but by many others. Hospitality is at the core of Jesus’ ministry and it’s our joy to share that with others. If you would like to…

Parish Life Events

Coming together to get to know each other better and to celebrate special events together is really important as being a part of the living Body of Christ. We often come together for a Shrove Tuesday Dinner (when we burn the palms for ashes for Ash Wednesday), an Easter Egg Hunt, a Church School Celebration, a “Welcome Back from Summer Picnic” and a number of receptions following special worship events. If you would like to help with the planning, decorating,…
