To honor St. Francis of Assisi, who cared deeply about all of God’s creatures and was passionate about giving aid to the needy, taking on the vow of poverty himself to have complete empathy to those in need, we will structure our Pet Blessing Sunday, with a slight twist. In years past, people were invited to bring their pets to church where they would receive a blessing. It was a special time — and amazingly, all the animals behaved themselves really well!
This year, however, we continue to extend our arms of love to our community — so we are doing something different. On Sunday, October 6th, at both of our services (8 and 10 a.m.) we are asking everyone to bring a contribution of pet supplies to be offered and blessed. This could be pet food, toys, bedding, litter green, etc. All that we bring to be blessed will be offered to our guests and friends who attend our Community Meals. Their animals need to be fed and cared for too and we want to make sure they are well cared for.
Please bring your donations to church on 10/6. If you can’t be at church that day, please drop your contributions off at church before that date. We’ll make available your gifts to our guests on Monday 10/7.
You will also receive a prayer card and certificate for your pet at home, so they are not forgotten either!
