As we begin to prepare our hearts to receive Jesus more fully into our lives during this Advent season, part of that spiritual work is to act more like Jesus, to offer ourselves in service to others, so that everyone’s life can be better. It is a time for us to look around us and to see where we can help out, where we can offer comfort and hope to others, where we can enable new life to spring forth from a situation which seems filled with despair.
Our youth members will be asked to engaged in a service project whereby they raise or contribute money so that our parish can purchase one goat through the Heifer Project International. Heifer International works with communities to increase income, improve child nutrition, care for the Earth, and ultimately end world hunger and poverty. During the 4 weeks of Advent, our young people will be asked to go through the “Fill the Ark” Calendar. Each day of this four-week calendar includes information about their work to end hunger and poverty in communities around the world. There is also a daily giving challenge to help guide families and faith communities to raise funds that will help lift families from poverty to self-reliance. This giving calendar is perfect way for families to reflect on their blessings and focus on generosity during Advent, Lent or any time of year. We invite you to join us! You can work your way through the calendar and learn a lot about what others are doing to make an impact in the world, by following in Jesus’ footsteps by “loving our neighbors as ourselves”.
Help us buy a goat this year!
